Feature Enhancement Request – Photo Capture to Media Library Without Auto-Publishing to Report
I’d like to propose a workflow enhancement that would significantly improve efficiency and usability when capturing photos within ISN—particularly during live inspections.
Currently, photos taken directly within ISN (via the Media sections tied to report categories) are automatically inserted into the report. While this works in some cases, it limits flexibility and forces inspectors to decide at the moment of capture whether an image belongs in the final report.
Proposed Enhancement
There should be an option to take photos directly within the ISN app using the existing Media sections of the template but have those photos saved only to the inspection’s Media Library by default, rather than automatically appearing in the report. Or give you the ability to choose, which pictures that you took in the media section to show up in the report.
From there, the inspector should be able to selectively choose which photos to associate with:
• Specific report sections
• Individual comments
• Or exclude them from the report entirely
This would mirror the current workflow used when selecting images from the Media Library, but eliminate the inefficient step of taking all photos on the phone first and uploading them later. Especially that they don’t always upload in order and then you have to scatter through all the pictures mixed up to find specific pictures associated with your comments that you want to utilize.
Why This Matters
This change would allow inspectors to:
• Capture all relevant photos in sequence during the inspection without interruption
• Build a complete, organized Media Library inside ISN in real time
• Decide later during report writing exactly which images belong in the final report and the pictures would be organized by the sections and available to choose which pictures in that section you want to specifically utilize for a certain comments
• Avoid cluttering reports with unnecessary or redundant photos
• Reduce time spent switching between the phone camera, uploads, and manual sorting
Current Limitation
At present, inspectors can only:
• Build the Media Library by uploading photos from their phone, or
• Take photos within Media sections that are immediately and automatically inserted into the report
There is no way to take multiple photos within ISN that remain in the Media Library without being published to the report unless manually removed afterward.
Summary
Allowing in-app photo capture that feeds the Media Library without auto-publishing and requiring intentional selection to place photos into report sections would align perfectly with how inspectors actually work in the field. It would improve speed, accuracy, and overall report quality while reducing friction in the inspection process.
I believe this enhancement would be a meaningful upgrade to ISN’s mobile workflow and greatly appreciated by inspectors who rely on efficient, real-time documentation.
